Both of the lead characters are also super well realized here. The humor here is a lot better than Finding Paradise especially, and the game balances having that patented Freebird Games saccharine, sappy, yet charming-as-hell writing style with a pretty fantastic reveal at the end that I somehow didn't see coming. That being said, it might actually be the best written game of the three. This could theoretically, possibly change as I think more about it, but I'm pretty confident that Imposter Factory doesn't have that at all for me, as I couldn't relate as much to either lead.

It’s not what I wanted from a To The Moon game.īoth To the Moon and Finding Paradise have themes and stories that resonate with me for very personal reasons specific to my personal experiences in life. It’s not because there isn’t good material in this game, but because the way the ending is structured serves the sci-fi plot at the expense of the characters. I just don’t feel the emotional catharsis the other games gave me.

The post-credits scene didn’t tell us anything about Neil’s plans or the ‘glitches’ in reality beyond what was already in Finding Paradise or the minisodes.

The game didn’t actually advance the overall series plot very much, despite derailing the characters arcs to give us the Neil twist. I wanted to feel an emotional arc, not have the rug pulled out from me. I don’t think this should have been a secret! It should have been revealed much earlier in the course of this game. The game tries to service the overall series plot by pulling a last minute ‘big twist’ about Neil. I felt overwhelmed by all of the technobabble being thrown at me so quickly, but the plot has to be narrated at the player this way because… These games have been so good about letting you walk through and experience the scenes, but here the final sequence was almost entirely narrated cutscenes. Everything about her presence felt so rushed and overwhelming to me, particularly because… A literal deus ex machina in the form of Faye. Instead, the narrative was taken over by… Stay tuned for more details in the meantime – it’s going to be a long wait.-Unlike in the previous games, the main characters didn’t actually get to solve their problems.
